19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial title since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after that period of that year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted observers to question if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to create a final set.

The opponent rescued four early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
